Hospitals Across The State Provide Relief, Aid, And Hope To Haiti

Hospitals across New York State reacted quickly to last month's devastating earthquake in Haiti, sending personnel, supplies, funds, and hope to the traumatized island nation.

Many hospitals and health systems have sent medical teams using whatever transportation could be arranged, while others are shipping pallets of medical supplies, holding fundraisers, and matching employee contributions to augment the relief efforts.

Hospitals are also providing relief here at home. Many hospitals serving communities of Haitian descent are providing assistance and counseling to friends and family members of those who have died, were injured, or remain missing in the aftermath of the earthquake.

"The selfless commitment to providing care to those in need is the hallmark of New York's hospitals and health systems," commented HANYS' President Daniel Sisto. "Our health care providers have shown ingenuity and determination to overcome barriers and deliver care-often at great personal risk. I am proud, but not at all surprised, that New York's health care institutions are answering the call to help a nation's people in time of disaster."
